Welcome to the Photonics Seminar

The Photonics Seminar is a weekly seminar organized this semester by Dr. James O'Callaghan , and Prof. Eoin O'Reilly. It covers recent advances in the field of photonics in Cork. Additionally, it features visiting international speakers.

The Seminar will take place at the Main Conference of the Tyndall National Institute, Tuesdays at 4 pm.

For upcoming and past seminars, please refer to the list on the left. If you would like to suggest a speaker, please contact James.

Towards tunable telecoms lasers using Stabilised Fabry-Perot quantum well lasers.

Date Tuesday, 17 October 2006
Time 4.00pm
Room Main Conference Room, Tyndall

Abstract

We have achieved single mode operation and multichannel operation using Fabry -Perot lasers with modal perturbations. Lasers are single mode and can be tuned in 400 GHz steps, making them promising for next-generation applications such as coherent wavelength division multiplexing. Channel spacing can be specified via photolithography and devices are monolithic with no overgrowth needed.
